This proposed legislation poses a grave threat to the well-being and dignity of transgender students in Ohio's public schools. Forcing educators to misgender and invalidate the identities of these vulnerable youth is not only unethical but actively harmful. Numerous studies have demonstrated the severe mental health consequences, including increased risk of depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation, that transgender individuals face when denied the ability to be acknowledged by their true names and pronouns. Schools should be safe, inclusive environments where all students can learn and thrive without discrimination. This bill, however, institutionalizes bigotry and creates unsafe conditions by mandating that transgender youth be systematically misgendered and denied basic affirmation of their identities. No student should be subjected to such dehumanizing treatment from the very institutions meant to nurture their growth. Transgender rights are human rights, and stripping these young people of their fundamental dignity violates core principles of human rights. Denying someone's identity and lived reality is psychologically damaging. This legislation is regressive and promotes harm against a vulnerable minority group. I urge you to reject this dangerous bill and instead pursue policies that protect all students and foster learning environments of mutual understanding and respect.
