Prioritize investing in public schools for all Texas students

To: Gov. Abbott, Rep. Harris Davila, Sen. Schwertner, Lt. Gov. Patrick

From: A constituent in Leander, TX

March 29

Texas school voucher proposal HB3 undermines public education and drains funding from already underfunded public schools. Instead of giving school vouchers to a selected few, Texas should increase funding for ALL public schools to help ALL Texas students. The plan to divert tax dollars to private schools lacks accountability and oversight, jeopardizing quality education for all students. Recent examples from Arizona demonstrate the detrimental fiscal impact voucher programs can have, resulting in severe budget shortfalls and funding cuts for public schools. Rather than privatizing education through vouchers, resources should be directed toward strengthening and improving the public school system to benefit all Texas children equitably. The interests of students, parents, and communities are best served by investing in public schools for all children, not undermining them through misguided voucher schemes. Upholding a robust public education system for all students should be the priority. Thank you for voting no on HB3.
