Concern Regarding SB 3 and Its Impact on Low-Income Ohioans

To: Rep. Lett, Sen. Liston

From: A constituent in Columbus, OH

March 28

I am writing to express my concern about Senate Bill 3, which proposes a flat 2.75% state income tax rate. While this change might benefit higher-income individuals, I am deeply concerned about how it will disproportionately affect low-income Ohioans. As someone who is in the middle-income tax bracket, I recognize that I might benefit from a flat tax. However, I believe it is more important to consider how this proposal would place a greater burden on those who are already struggling to make ends meet. Lower-income families would end up paying a larger percentage of their income in taxes, which would only exacerbate existing financial challenges. I urge you to consider the long-term consequences for vulnerable Ohioans and explore alternative solutions that maintain fairness in our tax system. Our tax code should be designed to lift up those who are most in need, not place additional financial strain on them. Thank you for your attention to this issue. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and hope we can find a solution that ensures fairness for all Ohioans.
