I am writing again concerning Cabinet members using an unsecured Signal message thread, “Houthi PC small group,” to coordinate a military attack, revealing classified information in the process.
That message thread put the lives of American service members in danger. All participants in that Signal chat need to resign or be removed from their positions immediately before they endanger more lives.
The unsecured Signal conversation, on unencrypted phones, listed:
• specific targets
• specific strike times
• the types of aircraft involved
• the weapons systems to be used
Every bit of that information is absolutely classified— I have multiple military pilots in my extended family. All are horrified such details were shared, and in such a reckless manner.
This matter is made worse with the fact our intelligence community warning, only days before, not to use Signal because it is easily hackable by hostile foreign intelligence services. Every person on that chat knew they were using a blatantly-unsecure method to do so. They—every one of them—knowingly put our service members in danger.
The conversation also endangered whatever human assets we have/had in Yemen who were able to provide information about the targets.
Treating security so cavalierly disqualifies the participants from their posts. Their utter lack of good judgement in this matter doubly does so. This is a case of inexcusable incompetence, and they must be held accountable.
My wife and I urge you to demand all involved parties resign immediately. If they will not do so, we insist you use your power to remove them from their positions as quickly as possible.
