I am proud to have seen Senator Booker standing up for our Democratic beliefs and holding the Senate floor for a record breaking 25 hours. Your constituency is very heartened by his actions, and this is one of many kudos for Booker pouring in, I suspect. I think it is very crucial for us all to know that this kind of bold theatricality is necessary to rally our nation’s resistance to Trump’s (and Musk’s) policies and choices. We write off “political theatre” as being grandstanding that doesn’t get anything done at our peril, because it DOES create an environment and an appetite for change. It DOES rally the troops and give people hope. This type of smart, well planned, and even “choreographed” resistance is super important right now, and I for one would love to see more of it. Please think about how you too can get out and make more of these kinds of rallying theatrical gestures. I’ve seen clips of Senators Murray and Cantwell asking questions and giving Booker a brief break from his fillabuster, which is an excellent show of solidarity. I’ve seen Representative Jayapal out speaking at a Tesla Takedown event, which is also great. I am so heartened to see our elected representatives out there bringing attention to our ongoing crisis of democracy and a functional government. Please keep up this great “theatrical” work and keep rallying against the cruel chaos of the Trump administration and its anti-democratic authoritarian policies.
