Vote NO on house bill 2867

To: Sen. Farnsworth, Gov. Hobbs, Rep. Olson, Rep. Heap

From: A verified voter in Mesa, AZ

March 26

I write in strong opposition to House Bill 2867, which would let members of the public sue Arizona educators and create liabilities that push hard-working people out of the classroom. However, House Bill 2867 makes individual educators responsible for the full cost of our legal defense if we face accusations of antisemitism – even if we can prove that we did nothing wrong. Educators already make too little in Arizona. We can’t afford the cost or the liability created by House Bill 2867. Arizona public school districts have robust disciplinary procedures for educators accused of wrongdoing. I’m worried that House Bill 2867 could turn classroom misunderstandings into costly legal battles and encourage bad-faith actors to harass and extort educators like me. Every student in Arizona deserves to feel safe and welcome at school. I urge you to strengthen civil rights protections and make sure everyone has a bright future in our public schools.
