The EO that President Trump signed defunding the Institute of Museum of Library Services as an attempt to make America more efficient or stop waste and fraud is one of the dumbest actions I have ever seen. The IMLS funding is a drop in the bucket of government spending yet means so much to communities all over the United States.
I work at a public library in Indiana and have for almost 27 years. IMLS funds make it possible for everyone in my community to have access to research databases (INSPIRE), the latest ebooks and audiobooks Indiana Digital Library), interlibrary loan for items my library hasn’t purchased, and more. With IMLS funds libraries across the state are able to have greater purchasing power and get better discounts. It is the most efficient and least wasteful way to give access to knowledge to everyone.
You must keep the IMLS and its funding for states. I am counting on you to support your constituents and their access to information through libraries.
