An Open Letter

Dear Senator Graham,
I am writing as a constituent to express my staunch opposition to the proposed changes to Senate budgetary rules that would allow the extension of the 2017 tax cuts without fully accounting for their impact on the federal deficit.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, permanently extending these tax cuts would add nearly $4 trillion to the national deficit over the next decade. Attempting to bypass this reality through a “current policy baseline” is nothing short of a budgetary sleight of hand. It undermines the Senate’s credibility, fiscal responsibility, and transparency.
The federal budget process exists to ensure careful consideration of long-term economic impacts—not to be manipulated for political gain. Masking the true cost of legislation only erodes public trust and paves the way for reckless financial decisions.
I urge you to stand against this effort. Upholding rigorous and honest fiscal evaluation is not just a procedural matter—it is a duty to the American people and to future generations who will bear the consequences of today’s decisions.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I look forward to seeing you defend responsible governance in the Senate.
