I urge you to reject the proposed school choice bills that would divert taxpayer funds towards private school vouchers. While promoting educational options is a laudable goal, the voucher system risks undermining public schools that serve the vast majority of Texas students. The nonpartisan Legislative Budget Board estimates the program could cost over $4 billion annually by 2030, siphoning resources away from neighborhood public schools. Rather than subsidizing private education for a few, we should focus on improving and adequately funding the public system that educates most children. Quality public education lifts up all students and strengthens our communities. I respectfully ask you to vote against voucher schemes that defund public schools.
