Condemn Invocation of Alien Enemies Act of 1798

To: Sen. Husted, Rep. Landsman, Sen. Moreno

From: A verified voter in Mason, OH

March 13

The Trump administration has now signaled that they plan to invoke the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 in support of their anti-immigrant agenda. This act gives the President broad powers to violate constitutional rights, such as the right to due process, during wartime or a national emergency. Despite the administration's contention that there is a national emergency and congressional republican's cowardly decision to declare all of the 119th congressional session "one calendar day" rather than fulfill their responsibility to act as a check against Presidential overreach, there IS NO EMERGENCY and we are not at war. As your constituent I demand that you voice now condemnation this proposed action, and if the administration does invoke the act that you use your congressional authority to counter and cancel it. This administration is acting lawlessly and Congress refuses to hold them accountable.
