Save Social Security - Eliminate DOGE - Protect Our Private Information

To: Rep. Omar, Sen. Klobuchar, Sen. Smith

From: A constituent in Minneapolis, MN

March 29

Let's be clear, what is happening to Social Security has nothing to do with fraud, or waste. It has a fraud rate of 0.00625% far less than the private sector. Their sole objective is to break it and why? To answer, I started to look up the history. The GOP has wanted to privatize it for decades. 1935: Almost all Republicans in Congress opposed the creation of Social Security. Attacks have been ongoing throughout history. By the 1990s: Efforts to end Social Security took the form of appealing to younger workers to put “their” Social Security insurance payments into the stock market. Between 1935-2005 there is a long list of attacks on Social Security most of which seemed to fail. By 2005 President George W. Bush revived the Social Security privatization effort. A Labor-led fight against privatization saved Social Security for the time being. And in 2006: President George W. Bush, once again, included privatization of Social Security in his 2007 budget. The government is there to provide services that the private sector can’t or won’t provide at a price that keeps them accessible to citizens, who are effectively the shareholders of the country. As Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) tweeted in February, “When you go private, the profit motive is everything.” I am not saying I have all the answers. Raising the cap from $168,000 is a start, but it won't fix it entirely. Bipartisan Policy Center’s Economic Policy Program, says increasing the taxable maximum isn’t a “silver bullet” and instead needs to be part of a “comprehensive package of Social Security reforms.” . Project 2025 plan is privatizing government. Looking at how they are proceeding. It is not inspiring confidence by their current efforts. Let alone obeying the law, violating people's rights and honoring their oath to the Constitution. Over the years, polls have consistently shown that the American public strongly supports Social Security, across party and demographic lines. In Aug 2020 ·AARP study confirmed support for Social Security was high across the political spectrum: 93 percent of Republicans, 99 percent of Democrats and 92 percent of independents see Social Security as an important government program. As stated earlier, aren't we the "shareholders of the country" not investors of corporations? Can we stop it? Not if we are silent. As an American citizen, a senior age 75 who is totally dependent on my social security and Medicare, and a constituent, along with my collogues, we demand we get some action taken by our representators in Congress. Whether it be out in public demanding DOGE be eliminated, through joining together and crossing the aisle to find solutions to halt the abandoning of Social Security, through legal actions and even calling on us to join you at rallies, we demand action. This is the hill I will die on. And sadly, maybe literally!
