Ohio for me has been a safe place. A home. A place to stay and heal. And for so many others that has been true. But for Ukrainian refugees, that may end soon. U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he would soon decide whether to revoke temporary legal status for some 240,000 Ukrainians who fled the conflict with Russia, following a Reuters report that his administration planned to take that step.
Such a move would be a stunning reversal of the welcome Ukrainians received under President Joe Biden's administration and potentially put them on a fast-track to deportation.
This is nothing short of depravity. Revoking emergency immigration status for war victims of our allies is almost the lowest of the low. Will the refugees of Ohio be protected?
I as your constituent urge you to save these people and to not send them back to their country, to let them rebuild and recover from tragedy, loss, and trauma.
Find your humanity. Stand up for freedom. Stand up to Trump and Elon. Protect these Ukrainian souls.
