Urgent Need for USAID Funding to Prevent Global Health Crises

To: Sen. Banks, Sen. Young, Rep. Stutzman, Pres. Trump

From: A verified voter in Fort Wayne, IN

March 6

I am writing to urge Congress to fully fund the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and reverse recent cuts that will have devastating consequences on global health and, inevitably, the United States. Memos from USAID experts estimate that due to these cuts, one million children will go untreated for severe malnutrition, up to 166,000 people will die from malaria, and 200,000 more children will suffer polio-induced paralysis in the next decade. The situation with tuberculosis is even more alarming—new infections are expected to surge by 30%, making the world’s deadliest infectious disease even harder and costlier to treat. Left unaddressed, these disruptions will lead to an estimated 80 additional drug-resistant TB cases in the U.S. each year, costing taxpayers millions. Investing in USAID is not just a moral imperative—it is a strategic necessity. Global health crises do not respect borders. Cutting these programs will not save money; it will increase long-term costs while endangering lives at home and abroad. I urge you to restore USAID funding and reaffirm America’s commitment to global health and stability. Thank you for your time and leadership on this critical issue. I look forward to your response.
