On March 15th, Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of Defense, included a civilian reporter in a text chat about imminent plans to attack Yemen. There are so many things wrong with that situation, but they all boil down to one thing: a gross mishandling of what could only be classified information and an egregious violation of national security by a top government official. This should rightfully have intense legal consequences for Hegseth, but at the very least he must be removed as Secretary of Defense. His confirmation was contentious at best, as have been most of Trump's appointees, and this is glaring evidence that Hegseth is not qualified to hold the position he has been given. American lives are on the line when breaches like this occur, American interests and safety, and it must be addressed severely because of that.
