The recent court ruling overturning the law prohibiting gun sales to adults under 21 is deeply concerning. Allowing easy access to firearms for this age group poses significant risks to public safety. Research shows that adolescent brains are still developing, particularly the areas responsible for impulse control and risk assessment. Giving young adults unfettered access to deadly weapons before their brains have fully matured increases the likelihood of impulsive acts of violence. Furthermore, data indicates that laws restricting firearm access for those under 21 have helped reduce gun violence and suicides in this vulnerable age group. I implore you to take immediate action to reinstate common-sense age restrictions on gun purchases. Protecting our communities from preventable tragedies should be the utmost priority.
