Restore Overdrive Funding

To: Sen. Luetkemeyer, Rep. Jones, Gov. Kehoe

From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO

March 12

As a school librarian, I am writing to ask you to help overturn Secretary Hoskins’s decision to pause funding for the Overdrive company. Overdrive provides digital access to ebooks and audio books through its Sora, Libby, and Overdrive apps. The students in my library utilize Sora for research and to check out some of the newest and most popular titles that are unavailable in our physical spaces. Sora is a way for kids to have constant access to reading material. Taking this platform away would cause even more hardship for families who struggle to get reading materials for their children due to busy schedules, lack of funds, or lack of access to transportation. If our goal is to make better readers, why would we take on this fight with one arm tied behind our back? This is a minimal expense with a major impact. There’s not a lot of programs like that in government. Please don’t allow Secretary Hoskins to remove one that works.
