Where is your name?

To: Sen. Peters, Rep. McDonald Rivet, Sen. Slotkin

From: A constituent in Midland, MI

March 30

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent targeting and detention of pro-Palestinian students. These actions represent a troubling violation of human rights and democratic principles. I have noticed that your name is absent from the letter demanding answers about these illegal kidnappings and advocating for the release of these students. As your constituent, I urge you to reconsider your position and take a stand on this critical issue. History has shown us that silence in the face of injustice often aligns one with the oppressors rather than the oppressed. As a member of the Democratic Party, which prides itself on championing equality, justice, and human rights, I find it difficult to reconcile your silence with these values. The targeting of students for expressing their beliefs is not only undemocratic but also sets a dangerous precedent for the erosion of free speech and academic freedom. I implore you to join your colleagues in demanding accountability and justice for these students. Being on the right side of history requires courage and a commitment to uphold the principles that define our democracy. Your leadership on this issue would not only reflect the values of your party but also demonstrate your dedication to protecting the rights of all individuals, regardless of their political stance. I look forward to your response and hope to see your name among those demanding justice for these students. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
