I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to you again to express my deep concern over the recent surge in federal workforce layoffs initiated by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk under President Donald Trump's administration. These actions have led to the highest number of job cuts since the COVID-19 pandemic, with significant implications for our nation's public services and the well-being of countless dedicated federal employees. In March 2025, U.S. employers announced 275,240 layoffs, marking a 60% increase from the previous month and a 205% rise compared to the same period last year. Notably, over half of these layoffs occurred in Washington, D.C., primarily due to DOGE's aggressive downsizing efforts across various federal agencies. Specifically, DOGE was responsible for 216,670 announced federal job cuts in March, significantly impacting the federal workforce. The breadth and speed of these layoffs are alarming. Agencies such as the Department of Health and Human Services, the Internal Revenue Service, NASA, the Social Security Administration, and even the Department of Defense have been targeted. The U.S. Postal Service is facing privatization efforts, and there are moves to dismantle the Department of Education. These cuts not only jeopardize the livelihoods of federal employees but also threaten the essential services these agencies provide to the American public. Moreover, the manner in which these layoffs have been conducted raises significant concerns. Reports indicate that employees were abruptly terminated, often without adequate notice or justification. For instance, at Yosemite National Park, workers faced sudden firings, leading to distress and disruption in park services. Such actions have understandably led to widespread anxiety and uncertainty among federal employees, undermining morale and productivity. The downstream effects of these layoffs are already becoming evident. Private non-profits have had to cut jobs due to the loss of federal funding, and there is a growing concern about the government's ability to deliver critical services. Furthermore, the broader labor market may soon feel the impact, with potential increases in unemployment rates and economic instability. I urge you to take immediate action to address this situation. It is imperative to scrutinize the actions of DOGE and ensure that any efforts to improve government efficiency do not come at the expense of essential public services and the livelihoods of dedicated federal employees. Transparency, accountability, and a commitment to the well-being of our nation's workforce must be prioritized. Thank you for your attention to this pressing matter. I trust that you will represent the interests of your constituents and work towards a resolution that upholds the integrity and functionality of our federal institutions.
