congress Recent advertisements in the Florida 6th District race for US House of Representatives, highlight the $880B cut to MEDICAID and reductions in HH&S services. The later has resulted in a $12B cut from State health services. The MEDICAID reductions impact those who cannot fend for themselves, the underprivileged, elderly and children who don’t get the healthcare they need and deserve. The subsequent reductions of grants to states further reduce needed health services, such as mental health, addiction treatment and infectious diseases. I laud the efforts to stop the flow of Fentanyl, but if you don’t stop the demand you haven’t solved the drug problem. The continuing epidemic of measles cases and the potential impact on the health of children, and adults alike. Our mental health services do not meet muster. The vast majority of mass shootings have been committed by individuals who were mentally ill. We have a large homeless who is made up of an increasing number of people requiring mental health services. Instead we find locations for them that won’t impact tourism. Congress has the responsibility under Article 1 of the Constitution for the power of the purse. The cuts I have addressed have been made outside of Congress’ authority and certainly don’t reflect the needs of your constituents. It is time Congress exercised their duties under the constitution, rather than taking the easy way out of letting DOGE make the cuts, allocate federal funding in a responsible manner that meets the needs of country.
