I am writing about the proposed privatization of TSA. TSA certainly needs improvement. The metrics regarding screening misses, the lack of transparency regarding biometric data storage security, and the use of facial recognition software are significant problems for travel security. However, privatization is the wrong answer to the agency's issues. Privatization, and I say this as someone who has professional experience in industry supporting government contacts, is not a cost-effective answer, nor is privatization a means to improved service. Private enterprises carry with them significant cost burdens for profit margins and exaggerated pay scales for senior managers. The government directly pays for those increased costs plus the contractually agreed markups, ODCs, G&A, and fee. And for that, the government pays more money for a service which is arguably no better than what is already provided. As your consistent, I support your efforts to ensure that TSA remains a government entity.
