Protect the Post Office: Keep it Out of Trump's Control

To: Sen. Warner, Sen. Kaine, Rep. Wittman

From: A constituent in Yorktown, VA

March 19

I write to you as an American who loves the post office and the service it provides to each and every American. The post office, like many other government departments does not exist to make money for Americans, it exists to provide a service. Without the post office: There is no force to help keep the price of mailing letters and packages down in America, private companies will be able to charge as they please. This will create issues with access to the post for many Americans. There is no "last mile service." Other shipping companies can decide they don't deliver to addresses that are too rural or far away. The USPS offers "last mile service" meaning they will go every last mile to get to your house, regardless of what it takes. This ensures that every American has access to the post. There will be issues with mail delivery and they will be felt keenly by every American whether they know it now or not. The USPS is a valuable institution. Its job is not to make money, but rather provide a service. Does anyone ask whether the Navy makes money each year? No. Please protect the USPS. Stand up for something good. Stand up for something for once.
