Urgent Action Needed to Address Homelessness in Colorado

To: Sen. Lundeen, Rep. Bottoms, Gov. Polis

From: A verified voter in Colorado Springs, CO

March 6

I am writing to express my deep concern about the growing homelessness crisis in Colorado and to urge you to take immediate and meaningful action to address the needs of our homeless population. Every day, more individuals and families are experiencing homelessness, and it is vital that we respond with both compassion and practical solutions to ensure that no one in our state is left behind. Homelessness is a complex issue that requires a multi-faceted approach. While we have made progress in some areas, much more needs to be done. Affordable housing remains out of reach for too many, and the resources available to those in need—such as shelters, mental health services, and addiction recovery programs—are insufficient to meet the growing demand. As a result, many people are left with limited options and are forced to live on the streets, facing the dangers of exposure, violence, and isolation. I urge you to consider the following actions to help alleviate homelessness in Colorado: - Increase funding for affordable housing initiatives: By expanding affordable housing options and providing incentives for development, we can ensure that more Coloradans have access to stable living conditions. - Strengthen support services: Provide more funding for shelters, mental health services, addiction recovery programs, and job training programs to help individuals and families regain stability and independence. - Enhance coordination between local governments and nonprofits: Ensure that efforts to assist the homeless are coordinated and that resources are used efficiently to address the needs of individuals in different regions of the state. - Implement prevention programs: Invest in programs that focus on preventing homelessness before it begins, such as rental assistance and eviction prevention services, which can help individuals stay in their homes before they fall into homelessness. Addressing homelessness is not just a moral imperative but an opportunity to improve the overall well-being of our communities and ensure that all Coloradans have the chance to live with dignity and security. I believe that with the right focus and investment, we can make significant strides toward solving this issue and helping those in need. Thank you for your time and consideration. I trust you will take the necessary steps to address homelessness in Colorado and help create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all residents.
