Please Stand Up For Our National Forests

To: Sen. Cortez Masto, Rep. Amodei, Sen. Rosen

From: A constituent in Zephyr Cove, NV

March 7

I am deeply concerned about the Immediate Expansion of American Timber Production executive order, calling for 280 million acres of our national forests to be decimated. Trump has directed that in doing so, the Endangered Species Act (ESA) should be circumvented by using unspecified emergency powers to ignore protections placed upon vulnerable creatures’ habitats. These forests are home to numerous imperiled species including the grizzly bear, wolverine, spotted owl, and wild salmon. In addition to destroying invaluable habitat, tree felling on this level will pollute waters that local communities rely on. This onslaught is on top of what he has already done to weaken the ESA, including opening more land and waters for the fossil fuel industry, and reversing a rule that protects migratory birds from unintentional killing. This is absolutely unacceptable. Please stand up to this onslaught and encourage your fellow members of Congress to protect the Endangered Species Act and our forests and waters before things get even worse. These are our public lands, and we all own them. Trump and his cronies should not be allowed to destroy our natural heritage. Thank you.
