Strong Support for Removing the Filibuster to Restore Senate Functionality
To: Sen. Lundeen

I am writing to express my strong support for the removal of the filibuster in the United States Senate. The filibuster, once a procedural tool used to encourage debate and ensure minority voices were heard, has increasingly become a weapon to obstruct and paralyze the legislative process. It has allowed a minority of senators to block essential legislation, even when it enjoys broad support from the American people.
At a time when our country faces pressing issues—ranging from climate change and healthcare reform to voting rights and infrastructure—the filibuster has proven to be an impediment to meaningful progress. The current state of partisan gridlock, exacerbated by the filibuster, prevents the Senate from addressing the needs of the people it represents. Our democracy thrives when elected officials act decisively and in the public’s interest, but the filibuster undermines that by allowing a minority to effectively veto the will of the majority.
The filibuster is also deeply undemocratic, as it grants outsized influence to a small group of senators, often representing states with smaller populations. This skews representation and limits the ability of the majority to enact policies that reflect the will of the American electorate.
I urge you to support efforts to remove the filibuster and restore the Senate to its proper function as a body that can legislate effectively on behalf of the people. Ending the filibuster would not only promote greater accountability, but it would also allow for the passage of critical legislation that addresses the most urgent challenges facing our nation today.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I trust that you will act in the best interests of your constituents and our country by supporting the removal of the filibuster.
