Senator Schumer Must Step Aside I’m writing to urge you to publicly call on Senator Chuck Schumer to step aside as Senate Minority Leader. On March 14, Senate Democrats had leverage to stop an extreme Republican funding bill that benefits Donald Trump and Elon Musk while cutting critical public programs. House Democrats (besides Jared Golden) stood strong and rejected the bill. Most Senate Democrats were ready to fight for a clean short-term CR that would have stopped this power grab. But Schumer caved. Instead of using his position to hold the line, he gave up leverage and let this disastrous bill pass. Government employee unions, legal experts, and progressives across the country made it clear that this bill was worse than a government shutdown. But Schumer ignored them, allowing a policy disaster that weakens our democracy. The stakes are too high for failed leadership. Democrats need a Senate Minority Leader who is prepared to stand up to Trump and the extreme right—not someone who surrenders without a fight. I urge you to call for new leadership in the Senate.
