Preserve education opportunities - oppose defunding and H.R. 899

To: Sen. Ossoff, Rep. Johnson, Sen. Warnock

From: A constituent in Atlanta, GA

March 26

The Department of Education plays a vital role in supporting public education, enforcing civil rights protections, providing students with disabilities access to resources, administering federal student loans, and funding workforce development programs. Dismantling or defunding this agency would be detrimental to students, teachers, and families across the nation. Trump's executive order aims to cripple the Department of Education by slashing its workforce and stripping away its functionality through unilateral executive action. This blatant overreach undermines the legislative process and threatens to abolish essential educational services without proper deliberation or input from the public. Furthermore, the reintroduction of H.R. 899, a bill solely intended to eliminate the Department of Education, is an alarming attack on the very premise of public education. Privatizing education only serves the interests of extremist groups and neglects the needs of millions of students who rely on federal support and oversight. I urge you to take a firm stance against these damaging efforts. Oppose H.R. 899 and Trump's executive order, which would devastate educational opportunities and protections for students nationwide. The Department of Education must be preserved and adequately funded to fulfill its crucial mission of ensuring equal access to quality education for all.
