I'm writing to you today to express my concern over the language in the proposed budget that would limit face mask use in public. Many of my loved ones are immunocompromised and their health and safety is always forefront in my mind. Also, I sometimes get sick and don't wish to get strangers infected with whatever I have. Further, there is potentially another pandemic on the horizon and federal reporting around that has been drastically reduced. Let's also look at this from an enforcement perspective. What is a face covering? Will police be able to start harassing anyone who is wearing glasses? I don't feel comfortable leaving that much more discretion in the hands of officers who have had a history of abusing power. Lastly, who is this helping? How many masked bandits are we grappling with in New York? Listen, I know that a lot of very sensitive conservatives didn't like to wear masks back when it was the one thing they could do to save a stranger's life but masks are excellent for public health and safety. As the leadership of the great state of New York, we should be making life better for those who most need it. That is what the Yankee Spirit is all about: helping the community.
