Protect Floridians' direct democracy rights
To: Sen. Gaetz, Rep. Andrade
From: A verified voter in Pensacola, FL
March 16
The power of direct democracy is a cornerstone of Floridian self-governance. Citizen-led ballot initiatives have delivered pivotal reforms such as raising the minimum wage, instituting term limits, and safeguarding our environment. However, legislative proposals currently under consideration would erect unnecessary barriers, crippling this essential avenue for the people's voice to be heard. Qualifying a citizen amendment is already a formidable undertaking, requiring substantial grassroots efforts. Rather than making this process even more difficult, we should be facilitating greater civic engagement. I implore you to defend Floridians' democratic rights by rejecting any measures that undermine our ability to directly shape the laws that govern us through the citizen initiative process. Upholding unfettered access to direct democracy is vital to preserving our state's democratic principles.
