I'm concerned and angered about Rep. Richard Hudson advising many congresspeople in his party to avoid in person town hall meetings.
I'm offended that Rep. Hudson described angry constituents as "professional protestors" and "democratic activists" while offering absolutely no evidence or further qualifications. Implying politics money, and bad faith are the only reason for the clamor and constituent anger, and there is no true dissent. This is utter self-assuring nonsense. It's like they've never been to a rock concert before.
Speak whatever else you liked about democratic congresspersons. They're not scared of a little noise at public meetings.
This is nothing new. Tension in town hall meetings were understably high in 2019 due to the pandemic and recession among other reasons. I am disappointed that the only thing that was learned 5 years ago was being afraid of being seen in public listening to voters and only allow attendees to virtual town hall meetings by invitation only. I find this an unusual level of cowardice.
Be responsible to Utah voters. Schedule town hall meetings in person. Fly on over at your soonest convenience. Believe it or not Utahns value politeness and decorum.
I can say that the one bright side of this was that Senator Roger Marshal had the tact to excuse himself early when angry attendees at one of his meetings pointed out the increase in unemployment among veterans and the number of veterans fired from federal jobs. In summary the midterms are coming up. I urge you to ignore the cowardly comments of Senator Marshal and Rep Hudson.
Sincerely, Registered voter, Bountiful UT.
