The Trump administration's plan to revoke temporary legal status for around 240,000 Ukrainians who fled the conflict with Russia is deeply concerning. These individuals were granted a lawful pathway to safety and stability in the United States, and stripping them of this protection would upend their lives and put them at risk of deportation. The United States has a long-standing tradition of providing humanitarian relief to those fleeing war and violence. Rescinding this program for Ukrainians would go against our nation's values and undermine our commitment to supporting allies in times of crisis. Furthermore, deporting these individuals back to Ukraine while the conflict with Russia is still ongoing would be inhumane and potentially endanger their lives. Many have established roots in communities across the country, found employment, and started rebuilding their lives after being displaced by the devastating war. I urge you to take action to prevent this harmful policy from moving forward. Allowing these Ukrainians to maintain their legal status is not only the moral course of action but also upholds America's reputation as a beacon of hope and refuge for the persecuted. They have already endured immense hardship, and forcing them to return to an active war zone would be an unconscionable act. I respectfully request that you use your authority to ensure these vulnerable individuals can continue residing in the United States safely and with dignity.
