Protect us - education, disabilities, democracy!

To: Rep. Scanlon, Sen. Fetterman, Sen. McCormick

From: A constituent in Wayne, PA

March 15

I am writing to urge you to take immediate and unwavering action to protect the fundamental pillars of our society: disability rights, fair and free education, and democracy itself. These are not partisan issues—they are the foundation of an equitable, functioning nation. First, disability rights must be upheld and expanded, not eroded. Millions of Americans rely on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and related protections to ensure access to healthcare, employment, education, and public spaces. Any effort to weaken these protections—whether through funding cuts, rollbacks, or bureaucratic barriers—directly threatens the independence and dignity of people with disabilities. I urge you to support and strengthen policies that promote accessibility, fair wages, and comprehensive healthcare for all. Second, fair and free education is a right, not a privilege. Public education must be fully funded, teachers must be supported, and all students—regardless of income, ability, or background—must have access to high-quality learning opportunities. We cannot allow book bans, school privatization schemes, or budget cuts to undermine our children’s future. I urge you to fight for increased federal education funding, teacher pay raises, and policies that foster inclusive and diverse learning environments. Finally, democracy itself is under attack, and your role in defending it is critical. Free and fair elections, voting rights, and transparent governance are non-negotiable. Any attempt to suppress votes, manipulate districts, or weaken democratic institutions must be met with firm opposition. I ask you to publicly commit to safeguarding voting rights, strengthening election security, and ensuring government accountability. I expect my elected officials to lead with integrity and urgency on these issues. I look forward to your response outlining the concrete steps you are taking to defend disability rights, public education, and democracy.
