Congress must reclaim its constitutional authority and reassert its role as a co-equal branch of government. The recent trend of ceding power to the executive branch undermines the system of checks and balances enshrined in our founding principles. By allowing the administration wide discretion over federal spending and relinquishing oversight responsibilities, Congress abdicates its fundamental duties. This erosion of legislative power concentrates too much control in the hands of the president, contradicting the intent of the framers to distribute power and create accountability. To preserve our democratic system, Congress needs to actively exercise its constitutionally mandated responsibilities. This includes robust oversight of the executive branch, asserting authority over federal budgets and expenditures, and serving as a counterweight through its legislative powers. Failing to robustly check the executive sets a dangerous precedent that further unbalances the separation of powers. Reclaiming its role is essential for Congress to fulfill its obligation to the American people and uphold the principles that have sustained our republic for centuries. Reasserting its rightful powers is a necessity, not an option.
