March 21

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding recent actions by the Trump Administration that have led to the removal of references to women, Native Americans, African Americans, and other marginalized groups from various federal agencies. Credible news sources, including the Associated Press, have documented these alarming developments: • Department of Defense (DoD): The Pentagon mistakenly removed webpages honoring Black Medal of Honor recipient Army Maj. Gen. Charles Calvin Rogers and the World War II Japanese American 442nd Regimental Combat Team as part of a broader initiative to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) content. These pages were later restored following public criticism. • Native American Veterans: The Pentagon also removed content honoring Navajo Code Talkers and other Native American veterans in its effort to purge DEI content. These pages were reinstated after backlash from Native American communities. • National Park Service (NPS): The NPS altered its website for the Stonewall National Monument by removing references to transgender individuals and changing “LGBTQ+” to “LGB,” effectively erasing recognition of transgender contributions to this pivotal event. While some of these removals were reversed following public pressure, not all content has been restored. References to transgender individuals and broader diversity initiatives remain absent from certain federal websites, reflecting an ongoing and uneven effort that continues to obscure the contributions of historically marginalized communities. These actions amount to a systematic effort to erase the invaluable contributions of marginalized communities from our nation’s history. They represent not only an affront to historical truth but also a blatant violation of the principles of equality and representation enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. I urge you to take immediate action to investigate these developments and ensure that the histories and contributions of all Americans are preserved and honored. It is imperative that our federal agencies reflect the rich diversity of our nation and uphold the values of inclusivity and recognition for all. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. I look forward to your response and to learning about the steps you will take to address these concerns. Sincerely,
