Disappointment in Durbin's Support for Trump's Spending Bill

To: Rep. Ramirez, Sen. Duckworth, Sen. Durbin

From: A verified voter in Chicago, IL

March 15

I am disappointed that Senator Dick Durbin voted in favor of the spending bill, effectively supporting President Trump's ability to make spending cuts and rig the government against the interests of the working class. While Durbin acknowledges there is little to like about this resolution, his vote enables the continued chaos and turmoil caused by Trump's reckless actions against federal workers and critical programs. It is concerning that he prioritized avoiding a government shutdown over standing firm against Trump's destructive agenda that undermines vital services for veterans, seniors, and families. This bill opens the door for further slashes to non-defense spending without safeguards. Durbin's stance contradicts his responsibility to defend the well-being of his Illinois constituents against the administration's assault on the federal workforce and social safety net. His capitulation on this vote is a disheartening compromise of democratic principles.
