I am writing to express my strong opposition to the following bills: HB 377, HB 712, SB 38, SB 268, SB 211, and SB 96. As your constituent, I urge you to vote NO on these measures, as they pose significant concerns for the well-being and rights of New Hampshire residents.
HB 377 & HB 712: These bills would prohibit healthcare providers from offering gender-affirming care, including puberty blockers and hormone therapy, to transgender minors. This would deny medically necessary, evidence-based treatment that leading medical organizations support as essential for transgender youth's mental health and well-being.
SB 38 & SB 268: These bills seek to allow classifications based on biological sex in public spaces such as restrooms and locker rooms, effectively rolling back anti-discrimination protections for transgender individuals. They would undermine the safety and privacy of transgender Granite Staters in everyday spaces like hospitals, workplaces, and businesses, despite existing laws already preventing harm or harassment.
SB 96: This bill would require teachers and school staff to disclose a student's gender identity to their parents upon request. Such mandatory disclosure policies discourage young people from seeking support and could put them at risk of harm, negatively impacting their mental health and well-being.
SB 211: While specific details on this bill are limited, I am concerned that it may contain provisions that similarly infringe on the rights and well-being of New Hampshire residents.
These bills threaten the rights, privacy, and healthcare access of transgender individuals and should be opposed.
I appreciate your service to our state and hope you will consider my concerns when these bills come up for a vote.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
