Defending Democracy: Stopping the Rise of an Unelected Oligarchy

To: Sen. Van Hollen, Sen. Alsobrooks, Rep. McClain Delaney

From: A verified voter in Frostburg, MD

March 8

I am deeply alarmed by the surge in dismissals within our government. According to Reuters, the campaign led by Unelected President Elon Musk has resulted in nearly 10,000 terminations, affecting critical sectors such as federal lands and veterans' care. But this issue is about more than just numbers. They fired and rehired the very personnel responsible for safeguarding our nuclear arsenal! The reckless decisions of this administration are inflicting serious harm—particularly on the most vulnerable, including many MAGA voters. Thousands are now without income and essential services, further exacerbating economic struggles across the nation. In a democracy, policies that impact millions should not be dictated by the whims of a few wealthy individuals. Yet, we are witnessing a coup—a shift toward a tech oligarchy where Musk wields immense power without ever being elected. This is a direct threat to the foundations of our democracy. I urge you to take immediate action and inform the public about the devastating consequences of these actions. Here’s a three-step plan to push back: 1. Expose the disruption. Gather data on grants and funds allocated to every congressional district that Musk has disrupted—especially Republican-held districts. 2. Hold Congress accountable. Pressure GOP lawmakers to pass legislation ensuring these funds are used as originally designated. 3. Enforce the law. If Musk and Trump refuse to allocate the money as required, they are violating federal law. They cannot claim mismanagement when they are the ones dismantling these programs. Beyond legislative action, we must use every platform—press, social media, and television—to expose the real-world impact on everyday Americans, including those who voted for this administration. Our 248-year-old democracy is at stake. We must set aside partisanship and work together to safeguard our shared values and the integrity of our republic. Please take swift action. The American people deserve leadership that prioritizes their well-being—not the interests of an unelected billionaire. I look forward to your response.
