Sir, the Department of Education plays a vital role in ensuring equal educational opportunities for all students and protecting the civil rights of students across the country. Dismantling the department would be catastrophic, stripping away crucial funding and support from our most vulnerable students. We cannot allow the administration to undermine public education and the futures of millions of children. The Department of Education oversees Title I funding for high-poverty schools, provides billions for special education under IDEA, enforces civil rights laws prohibiting discrimination, and administers programs like Pell Grants that make college accessible. Eliminating or gutting the department would decimate these essential services, explode class sizes, cut job training, make higher education unaffordable, deny services to students with disabilities, and remove civil rights protections. Public education is a core American value. We must reject any attempts to abolish the Department of Education or divert its resources away from public schools. Our students deserve better than having their futures compromised for ideological purposes. I urge you to vocally oppose any efforts to dismantle this vital agency and instead prioritize strengthening public education for every child.
