Secure Social Security's future through payroll tax reform

To: Rep. Neal, Sen. Warren, Sen. Markey

From: A verified voter in Springfield, MA

March 24

Social Security provides vital income protection to millions of retired workers, survivors, and people with disabilities and their families. However, its long-term financial outlook is threatened by an aging population and rising costs. To address this, eliminating the cap on income subject to the Social Security payroll tax would substantially improve the program's solvency. Currently, earnings above $160,200 are exempt from the payroll tax. Removing this cap would ensure that higher-income workers contribute more to sustain benefits for all recipients.
