Insufficient context for diversity education legislation message

To: Rep. Sirois, Sen. Fine, Gov. DeSantis

From: A constituent in Satellite Beach, FL

March 18

Higher education reform proponents claim the need to fight "indoctrination" and protect intellectual freedom. However, Senate Bill 1 risks gutting diversity initiatives by cutting funding for programs that do not align with vaguely defined ideological criteria. This could censor discussions of systemic injustice, threaten academic freedom, and make campuses less welcoming for marginalized groups. Elected representatives should carefully weigh unintended consequences that undermine true diversity of thought. Rather than restrict academic inquiry, higher education should foster open discourse from all perspectives in the pursuit of truth.
