Protect linguistic diversity and equal access for all citizens

To: Rep. Mann, Pres. Trump, Sen. Moran, Sen. Marshall

From: A verified voter in Lawrence, KS

March 11

Trump's executive order declaring English as the official language rescinds a previous order requiring federal agencies to accommodate non-English speakers through interpreters or translated materials. The order leaves accommodation policies up to agency discretion, which could deny language access for immigrants and citizens with limited English proficiency seeking essential government services. Over 67 million US residents speak a language other than English at home. Allowing immigrants their language and providing interpreters respects America's linguistic diversity and ensures equal access to civic participation.
