Academic and cultural exchange programs are vital for fostering cross-cultural understanding and preparing future leaders. However, funding for these initiatives has been severely cut in recent years. The State Department's budget for the Fulbright program, which funds study abroad opportunities for American students and scholars, has been slashed by over 20% since 2016. Similarly, the Gilman program that helps make study abroad accessible to students of limited financial means has seen its funding reduced. These cuts undermine America's global engagement and leadership. We urge restoring full funding to these proven exchange programs that expand minds, bridge divides, and strengthen our ties with partners worldwide. Robust international education is an investment in a more peaceful and prosperous future for all.
