Support Policies to Strengthen the Middle Class

To: Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla, Rep. LaMalfa

From: A constituent in Plumas Lake, CA

March 20

I am writing to express my deep concern about the current trajectory of our nation's economic policies and their devastating impact on the middle class. It is becoming increasingly evident that these policies are eroding the foundation of the middle class, leaving a stark divide between the upper and lower classes. This growing disparity threatens the very fabric of our society, as the upper class continues to benefit at the expense of the lower class, who are left with diminishing resources and opportunities. One glaring example is the recent executive order halting the hiring of federal employees, including IRS agents, which was intended to protect middle-class families from excessive audits. While this may seem beneficial on the surface, it has inadvertently allowed wealthier individuals and corporations to exploit loopholes in the tax system, shifting the burden onto middle- and lower-income families. This policy undermines the principle of a fair and equitable tax system, further widening the gap between the rich and the rest of society. Additionally, the administration's decision to impose tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China has had a ripple effect on the economy. These tariffs have increased the cost of goods for everyday Americans, disproportionately affecting middle- and lower-income households. While the upper class can absorb these costs, the middle class is left struggling to make ends meet, further exacerbating economic inequality. Moreover, changes to immigration policies, such as the rescission of protections for certain groups and heightened scrutiny at ports of entry, have disrupted industries that rely on immigrant labor. This has led to increased costs for businesses, which are often passed down to consumers, placing an additional financial strain on middle-class families. These policies, among others, paint a very troubling picture of an administration that prioritizes the interests of the upper class while neglecting the needs of the middle and lower classes. They say they hear the American people, but they’re truly do not. They weaponize the voices of the American public to fit their agenda. I urge you to advocate for policies that support the middle class, such as tax reforms that close loopholes for the wealthy, investments in affordable housing and healthcare, and measures to ensure fair wages and job security for all Americans. Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. I look forward to seeing your continued efforts to protect and uplift the middle class, which is the backbone of our nation.
