An Open Letter

To: Sen. Alsobrooks, Sen. Van Hollen, Rep. Mfume

From: A verified voter in Halethorpe, MD

March 31

Only one person from Maryland, Senator Chris Van Hollen, signed the letter asking about the arrest of legal immigrants by ICE. No other Maryland leaders signed, and that is not okay. Maryland should be speaking up. The Trump administration is arresting legal immigrants, including students, and not saying why. Their visas are taken away without warning. Some are locked up, and their families don’t even know where they are. One student, Rumeysa Ozturk, was arrested in Massachusetts. Another student, Alireza Doroudi, was taken in Alabama, and no one knows where he is. Senator Marco Rubio said over 300 students have lost their visas, but he has not given a reason. This is wrong. These students followed the law. They should not be treated this way. They deserve answers and fair treatment. Maryland should be standing up against this. I want you to speak out and ask for answers. Immigrants are part of our schools, communities, and economy. They should not be arrested and taken away without warning. Please do something. I want to see Maryland leaders fight for what is right.
