I am a mother of two school-age children, a teacher, and a proud member of my community in Waukesha, Wisconsin. I oppose cuts by the U.S. Agriculture Department and anything similar that would impact schools and food banks.
Programs like Local Food for Schools not only help our most struggling students and bring healthy food to our nation's children, but they also benefit our farmers here in Wisconsin.
If the USDA's purpose -- stated on their own website -- is to be a leader in food, agriculture, nutrition, "helping rural America to thrive," then these cuts work against that mission.
It is also the height of hypocrisy for our president to approve of these cuts while, in the same week, giving time to parade Teslas at the White House and urge the American people to buy these products. It highlights that the president's agenda is not for the everyday people of America. His agenda is not to support us here in Wisconsin, where we care what our children eat and that family farms are able to stay in business.
I want my tax dollars to feed children healthy foods. I want my tax dollars to support the farmers I drive past every day.
Speak up to reinstate and grow these programs that help our nation to be healthy and thriving. Thank you for all you do each day to be the voice for those of us here in Wisconsin who voted for you.
