Prevent closure of 34 national park facilities

To: Pres. Trump, Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Sessions, Sen. Cruz

From: A constituent in Robinson, TX

March 8

I urge you to take immediate action to prevent the closure of 34 field offices and facilities within our national park system. The potential loss of these critical resources would severely undermine the National Park Service's ability to manage and protect our cherished natural and cultural heritage sites. Terminating leases and shuttering visitor centers, museums, and public safety facilities directly undermines the core mission of the National Park Service and deprives the American people of access to the parks they own. These parks belong to all of us, and we have a responsibility to safeguard them for future generations. Allowing park infrastructure and buildings to be sold off or closed sets a dangerous precedent that could lead to further degradation of our national treasures. The National Park Service is already facing crippling staffing shortages after losing 9% of its workforce. Closing additional facilities will only compound the challenges park staff face in maintaining visitor services, resource protection, and public safety. Our national parks preserve America's most iconic landscapes, historical sites, and cultural resources. They attract over 300 million visitors annually and are powerful economic engines for local communities. I implore you to take decisive action to prevent the loss of these 34 park facilities and uphold our nation's longstanding commitment to protecting our national park system for the benefit and enjoyment of all. Protecting park buildings and lands is vital to honoring our shared heritage.
