Reject H.R. 2249 protecting worker rights, limiting executive overreach

To: Rep. Craig

From: A constituent in Cottage Grove, MN

March 25

The proposed Preserving Presidential Management Authority Act (H.R. 2249) would grant the President sweeping powers to unilaterally terminate provisions of existing federal employee union contracts. This undermines the collective bargaining process and erodes longstanding worker protections. As an attack on labor rights, this bill should not be passed. The legislation allows any newly sworn-in President to void negotiated contract terms with federal employee unions. It also permits the President or agency heads to nullify any provisions they deem conflict with presidential directives like executive orders or memos. This disturbing overreach concentrates excessive authority in the White House at the expense of public servants. Federal workers dedicate their careers to serving the American people. They deserve fair treatment and a voice through their unions in determining workplace rules and conditions. H.R. 2249 eliminates this voice by empowering the President to shred negotiated contracts on a whim after taking office. It is an affront to democratic norms and an unacceptable government overreach into the labor relations sphere. For these reasons of protecting workers' rights and curbing excessive executive power grabs, I urge you to oppose the Preserving Presidential Management Authority Act. This misguided legislation upends principles of good governance and fair labor practices that our civil service system was founded upon. Please vote no on H.R. 2249.
