Oppose H.R. 22, the SAVE Act
To: Rep. McClain
From: A constituent in Independence, MI
March 30
I am writing as a concerned constituent to urge you to oppose H.R. 22, the SAVE Act. While election security is important, this bill is nothing more than voter suppression. It imposes unnecessary barriers on eligible voters, particularly seniors, rural voters, and married women who have changed their names.
Requiring strict identification that may not reflect a woman’s current legal name creates needless obstacles, forcing many married women to navigate bureaucratic red tape just to exercise their fundamental right to vote. This is wrong. Instead of protecting election integrity, this bill is designed to disenfranchise lawful voters.
Voter suppression in any form is unacceptable. I urge you to reject H.R. 22 and stand up for the rights of all Americans to participate in free and fair elections. Please let me know where you stand on this issue—I look forward to your response.
