I am writing as a concerned citizen, parent, and public school teacher. I am concerned for the students of Colorado, particularly those in the most vulnerable groups such as minorities, those with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ students. These students are already at risk for alienation and attack. The executive orders of our current president are very concerning to me as they appear to be emboldening those who share his bigoted and backward views. I am concerned about the new Department of Education DEI hotline to “report” public schools that have diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. Any public school that welcomes all students must do just that, welcome ALL students. Whatever their race, ethnicity, ability level, orientation or identity as an education professional it is my duty to make sure my students thrive.
It is my hope that Colorado will stand up for what is right and just and stand by these students. That Colorado will not allow its teachers or students to be bullied or penalized by unjust orders or laws. What is Colorado going to do to make sure its students and teachers from unjust accusations?
