Don't Cut Humanities Funding, National or State Level.

To: Sen. Curtis, Rep. Owens, Sen. Lee

From: A constituent in West Jordan, UT

April 3

I am writing to you today to protest the draconian cuts that DOGE is making to the National Endowment for the Humanities. In Utah, a state with so many regions, Utah Humanities does the great work of outreach, bringing programming to the farthest flung areas of the state. I am the state poet laureate, and I myself travel all over the state, and I know how much people in Blanding and Bluff and Green River and Farr West appreciate discussions, writing activities, and more, with adults, teens, and children. The overall fiscal impact of the humanities--at the national level and at the state and local levels--is so small, so it really can't be credibly argued that this is about fiscal responsibility. It's not. It will, however, cut into the quality of life for people all over the state. Please do everything in your power to stop this reckless, blind, and (I have to say it) dumb slashing of funding for the arts and the humanities.
