Reinstate legal aid for unaccompanied migrant children

To: Rep. Clark, Sen. Markey, Pres. Trump, Sen. Warren

From: A constituent in Belmont, MA

March 26

The Trump administration's decision to terminate legal aid for unaccompanied migrant children is unconscionable. These children, many fleeing violence and persecution, are being denied critical legal services that allow them to navigate the complex immigration system and access due process. Unattended children also include legal United States citizens found without a legal guardian nearby, not just undocumented immigrants. This move exacerbates an already difficult situation where thousands of children are held in substandard detention facilities without proper care or representation. Restoring funding for legal aid programs like the Vera Institute of Justice's Unaccompanied Children Program is imperative to uphold human rights and ensure these vulnerable minors receive fair treatment under the law. I urge you to take immediate action to reverse this inhumane policy and reinstate legal services for unaccompanied children seeking safety in our country.
